Connection request note

The optional message (up to 300 characters) attached to a LinkedIn invite. The strongest notes reference something the person actually did; the weakest recite their job title back at them.

Operators argue about with-note versus without-note, and the honest answer is: it depends on the note. A template note underperforms no note at all — it proves automation. A researched note (their post, their launch, a real shared context) outperforms both. 300 characters is enough for exactly one specific observation and one soft reason to connect; anything more is a pitch, and pitches belong after acceptance.
