Merge variables were state of the art in 2015 and a liability by 2026: recipients pattern-match them instantly, and a missing value produces the legendary 'Hi , congrats on !'. Every merge-variable tool needs fallback values for every variable — a sequence that errors on a missing field kills real prospects silently. The deeper fix is not better variables; it's writing from research instead of filling blanks.
